One killed and many injured in England crash
New York City News.Net Monday 18th August, 2008
One man was killed and more than 60 injured in a bus-car collision in Staffordshire, west Midlands region of England.
The accident occurred at around 6 p.m. when the double decker bus collided with a car, crashed through a wall and ended up in a garden in Alton, near Alton Towers theme park, the report said.
According to officials, one man was confirmed dead in the accident, while more than 60 people injured.
Two critically wounded people have been airlifted to hospital from the scene.
The passengers in the bus were on a trip to the theme park, and were thought to have been foreign workers from the Peterborough area.
'The bus was coming down a steep hill towards the bridge at the bottom, and from what I can see at the scene, that bus has not managed to go round the bend, and has careered through a wall and down a drop into a garden,' said Staffordshire Police chief John Maddox.
An investigation into the cause of the accident has been under way, he added.
