Jobless claims signal inflation fall
New York City News.Net Thursday 4th September, 2008
With US companies responding to the slowing economy by pushing out more product with fewer workers, the US government has revealed jobless claims rose last week.
The job decline has signaled a fall in inflation worries for the Federal Reserve.
The combination of higher productivity with lower costs should help contain inflation and give the Fed some breathing room on interest rates.
The Labor Department reported that new applications for unemployment insurance rose to a seasonally adjusted 444,000, up 15,000 from the previous week.
