Indian billionaires double in numbers
New York City News.Net Sunday 14th March, 2010
India’s mega-rich are fast exceeding figures from last year, in which Forbes Magazine said there were 24 billionaires in India.
Now there are 49, with a combined net worth of over $222 billion.
Two of the Indian billionaires are among the five richest men in the world.
India’s richest billionaire is Mukesh Ambani, who is also Asia’s richest man and the fourth richest in the world.
His Reliance Industries is the country's largest firm, with a net worth of $29 billion.
Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, based in London, comes next with a net worth of $28.7 billion.
While much of the wealth in India was struck during a five year period when the economy grew by nearly nine percent until the slowdown in 2008, the country’s rapid emergence from the global financial crisis has meant a revival of capital markets and the fortunes of India’s most wealthy.
According to the World Bank, nearly one-third of the world's poor are in India, with half of them living on less than $1.25 a day. Email this story to a friend

well luckily they do not have to live in racist Australia when they are much better off in racist India.. Wonder if the Indian Media has anything to say here.. or is it easier to blame everyone else?

Perhaps there wouldn’t be so many billionaires if they paid their employees a living wage. But that would mean they would have to give up a little bit, doesn’t it. Why wouldn’t the government in India look into this, to help out their poor, instead of shipping them off to other countries to beg off of. Maybe the INdian government should tax these greedy slave users to help clean up the horrible slums that india is noted for. How these people can live with themselves is beyond imagining. These billionaires, & the bollywood people are ridiculous caricatures of human beings - able to live oblivious to the garbage littering their cities, the ignorance that the poor suffer, and the filth that their cities stink of.
No wonder they choose to live abroad.

Pain in the ass of white man:)
After reading above comments I realized what a racist and jealous bastards you all are. WHy you feel jealous now that India is progressing? Yes,India has millions of people under poverty line but it is you bastards(British,French, Portugese, Dutch) who invaded India and looted everthing for 200 years before 1947. You became rich thanks to India, dont forget this fact. And now you say kind of pseaudo rhetoric. You fools, jsut wait for another 10-20 years and you will be jobless in your own coutries and will have to immigrate to INDIA for bread and butter.Just wait.:)))

Truth prevails
Scrath our heads.. and point our fingers on our economy, the state of affairs... even we have millions under $1 a day income...
Top businesses are not run by layman and street people... it needs educated, intelligent minds and smart businessmen.. a lesson to learn

Everything is perfect; all you have to do is change your mind.
The lure of distant and the difficult is deceptive. the great opportunity is where you are.

Very regretful for the Indian people. Hundreds of millions (not millions) live in subsistence and extreme poverty while 49 Indian billionaires make big news. I was in India 2 years ago and what I witnessed about the Indian government and Indian economic elitists screwing the Indian general population was beyond imagination.
The 24 Indian billionaires are nothing more than local elitists bred by the Masons to help them maintain their ill-gotten wealth.
The notorious World Bank (the banking robber barons organization facilitating their robbery) UNDERREPORTED. It is actually much much more than half of them living in hopeless situation. For these unfortunates, their life in their own country resembles more like HELL ON EARTH. I would rather not be born into this world especially in India seeing this heartbreaking misery.
Perhaps the common people need to do something now. REVOLUTION is so badly needed.

It is also amazing how people like the mainstream media, the bankers, and the economic elites measure the SUCCESS of each country.
They use the NUMBER OF BILLIONAIRES IN THE COUNTRY AS THE BENCHMARK FOR MEASURING SUCCESS INSTEAD OF HOW MANY PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY HAVE FOOD ON THEIR TABLES TO FEED THEIR FAMILIES EVERY DAY.
With regard to India, the trios (bankers, economic elites, and the Indian government) are not only screwing the Indian people but they are ALSO planning to exterminate as much of the Indian people as possible through GMO seeds and GMO food in order to protect the trios' wealth and control.

TRACE has studied other leading emerging economies. In China, it describes corruption as an inverted pyramid, with most bribery at the top WHILE INDIA IS THE OPPOSITE, WITH CORRUPTION RAMPANT AT LOWER LEVELS BUT (TAPERING OFF) HIGHER UP. (excerpts from the Moscow Times titled Russia Corruption May Force Western Firms to Quit in the Business Section by Reuters).
CHINA’S CORRUPTION IS AN *INVERTED* PYRAMID? SO RUSSIA’S CORRUPTION IS A SQUARE? THERE IS NO SUCH THING LIKE INVERTED PYRAMID OR SQUARE IN THE POWER STRUCTURE. OTHERWISE, IT IS NOT CALLED POWER STRUCTURE EXCEPT THROUGH GIMMICKS. ALL PYRAMIDS OBVIOUSLY TAPERED OFF AS THE LEVEL MOVES UP.
INDIA, AS WELL AS CHINA AND RUSSIA ARE ALL *NORMAL* PYRAMIDS? WELL, OF COURSE THEY ARE. OTHERWISE WE WILL NOT CALL THEM POWER STRUCTURES.
AT THE TOP OF THE PYRAMID IS THE LEADERSHIP. IF THE LEADERSHIP STINKS, EVERYTHING ELSE BELOW THE TOP IS ROTTEN AS WELL. CAN A BLIND SHEPHERD LEAD HIS SHEEP? JUDGE THE VINE BY ITS FRUIT. CAN A BAD TREE BEAR GOOD FRUIT??
IN RUSSIA TODAY, WE DON’T SEE ANYTHING AS BAD AS IT IS IN INDIA WITH THE POOR. IN CHINA, WE HARDLY SEE ANYONE WITHOUT FLESH BUT BONES. IN INDIA, WE SEE THE NUMBERS OF THE DESOLATE BEYOND HUMAN IMAGINATION!
WE SEE MODERN INFRASTRUCTURES EVERY IN CHINA. IN INDIA, THE INFRASTRUCTURES ARE MOST IN BREAK-DOWN STATUS. ACTION SPEAKS NOT WORDS.
WHERE HAVE ALL THE MONEY GONE IN INDIA? YES, WE KNOW. ALL GONE TO THE TOP LEVEL OF THE PYRAMID IN THE GOVERNMENT POWER STRUCTURE AS WELL AS THE TOP LEVEL OF THE PRIVATE CORPORATIONS POWER STRUCTURE.
TRACE DESERVEDLY NEED TO BE KICKED OUT OF RUSSIA IF THEY WILL BE.
