WASHINGTON, U.S. - Amid a heated row over the Trump administrations zero tolerance immigration policy, which saw thousands of families being torn apart at Americas southern border - a range of celebrities, activists and civilians criticized the inaction by the countrys government.

Following the growing national outrage over the Trump administrations policy of separating immigrant children from their families at the border, Trump eventually signed an executive order, vowing to end border family separations.

However, before he could do so, he blamed the Democrats for the policy, which was actually imposed by the Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Among the several public domain personalities who condemned the Trump administration, was the Oscar-nominated actor Peter Fonda, who has criticized the White House for days.

Fonda, who previously accused the Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders of being a liar, tweeted earlier in the week that President Donald Trumps preteen son, Barron Trump, should be torn from his mothers arms and caged.

He wrote on Twitter, Maybe we should take her children away and deport her to Arkansas, and giving her children to Stephen Goebbels Miller for safe keeping.

Aghast by the attack on her 12-year-old son by the Easy Rider" star, FLOTUS immediately notified the Secret Service of a possible threat.

In a statement, Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for first lady Melania Trump said that the notification came in response to Fondas tweet, which suggested that 12-year-old Barron Trump should be placed in confinement with pedophiles see if mother will stand up against the giant a-hole she is married to.

He added, "90 million people in the streets on the same weekend in the country. F.

In a report, The Daily Caller first reported on the White Houses notification of the Secret Service and even quoted Grisham as calling the actors remarks sick and irresponsible.

Fondas tweet has since been deleted from his Twitter page and while his representative initially said that the actor was too busy doing press for his new film to comment - Fonda has since apologized in a statement.

He issued a statement saying, "I tweeted something highly inappropriate and vulgar about the president and his family in response to the devastating images I was seeing on television. Like many Americans, I am very impassioned and distraught over the situation with children separated from their families at the border, but I went way too far. It was wrong and I should not have done it. I immediately regretted it and sincerely apologize to the family forwhat I said and any hurt my words have caused.

However, Fonda isnt the first celebrity to face Secret Service scrutiny over criticism of the U.S. President as comic Kathy Griffins lawyers said in June last year that the Secret Service was investigating her for posing with what appeared to be a decapitated head of Trump.

Further, the Trumps administrations recent immigration policy has been criticized by all of the living former first ladies Rosalynn Carter, Laura Bush,Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.

In a statement released later in the week, a Secret Service spokesman said the agency is aware of the tweet but declined to comment, citing the agency's practice of not speaking about protective matters.

Fondas public outburst against his father, led Trumps eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. to respond to the actor directly.

Trump Jr. tweeted, "You're clearly a sick individual and everyone is an internet bada-- but rather than attack an 11 year old like a bully and a coward why don't you pick on someone a bit bigger. LMK.
