Jockeys competing in the Kentucky Derby must be at Churchill Downs by Aug. 31 and submit to several rounds of testing for COVID-19, according to a document of protocols distributed by the track.

Per the document, jockeys must declare their intention to ride in the Kentucky Derby by Tuesday.

The jockeys will be tested on Aug. 31 and again on Sept. 3, two days before the Kentucky Derby race itself.

Jockeys must wear protective face masks at all times, except during a race.

Earlier this month, Churchill Downs reportedly wanted the riders to be in the state by Aug. 24. That deadline would have required jockeys traveling to Kentucky from New York or California to miss two weeks of racing during the current meets at Saratoga or Del Mar.
