Pirates release Jake Marisnick, claim Kevin Padlo

The Pittsburgh released outfielder Jake Marisnick on Sunday after claiming utility man Kevin Padlo off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

Marisnick, a 10-year veteran, batted .234 with two homers and six RBIs in 31 games for the Pirates this season. He was been the injured list since July 25 with a sprained right big toe and missed time earlier in the season due to a thumb injury.

Marisnick, 31, has a .228 career average with 63 homers and 213 RBIs in 831 games with the Miami Marlins (2013-14), Houston Astros (2014-19), New York Mets (2020), Chicago Cubs (2021), San Diego Padres (2021) and Pirates.

Padlo was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Padlo, 26, is batting .182 in 10 major league games this season -- four for the San Francisco Giants and six for the Mariners. He has three RBIs in 22 at-bats.

He has played in 20 career games -- including nine with the Tampa Bay Rays last season -- and is 5-for-35 (.143) with three RBIs.
